Information for parents of kids in Mandarin immersion education

Barnard has a new name, and continues to be the only TK-5 Chinese Mandarin Immersion Program in the district.

When Barnard started, there was an interest in providing language support for other languages besides Mandarin (such as Japanese or Korean.) Now we have settled into our identity as Mandarin Immersion school (everyone has their hands full.) Administration, teachers, and parents have grown the program through middle school, and we now have our first Barnard immersion graduates pursuing high level Mandarin courses as freshmen at Mission Bay High School with plans to pursue International Baccalaureate diplomas.
And yes, Barnard is the only Mandarin elementary in San Diego Unified School District, but there are two other programs in San Diego County. The Lakeside Union School District program has also developed a K-12 pathway.
