Another Mandarin immersion school in California is the Redding School of the Arts, in Redding, California. It is a public charter school grades K – 8 focusing on the visual and performing arts. The Mandarin program is a 50/50 immersion model and started in the 2007 school year with a kindergarten class of 34 students (divided into two sections of 17 children). The incoming kindergarten class also has 34 students and the school intends to grow the program a grade each year.

College Park is a public elementary school in San Mateo that offers Mandarin immersion from pre-K to grade 2, with the program growing by a grade each year. In addition, we offer Mandarin as an elective to studnets in grades 3-5. We are able to accept students from outside our district for the 2009-10 school year. You all should also know about a wonderful new Mandarin immersion school which opened last fall across the bay in Berkeley, Shu Ren International School. They use the International Baccalaureate curriculum, and now have Pre-K through 1st grade and will add a grade each year through 8th grade. Their website is: http://shureninternationalschool.com/
      Thanks!

      HI All,
Do we have any parents from these programs who will be attending the Chinese Education Conference in San Francisco March 13 – March 15? We’ve got a panel discussion on how parents can support their children and their children’s schools and we would love to have parents from programs outside of San Francisco participate. If you’re going or know someone who is, please contact Beth Weise at weise@well.com

Space is still available in these Kindergarten and 1st grade classes. In the Los Angeles Unified School District, City Terrace Elementary School has a Mandarin dual-immersion program.
