This is the first of what should end up being several summer camp possibilities that we’ll post about as they become available. If you know of others please send them along.

Want to give your child a total Mandarin immersion and Chinese art experience without leaving the country? Come and join our Mandarin and Art Summer Camp conveniently located in San Francisco.

AAS Mandarin and Art Summer Camp is designed for children entering Kindergarten through 3rd grade. This program will give them a unique opportunity to learn and improve their language skills in Mandarin, while deepening their knowledge of Chinese culture and art through age appropriate play-based classes and activities in Mandarin.

The camp consists of 8 one-week sessions from June 7 to July 30. The basic program is from 9 am to 3 pm with an extended day option.  The students participate in classes conducted in Mandarin that include such culturally rich activities as drawing, Chinese brush painting, playing the yaogu (the Chinese waist drum), Chinese folk songs and poetry, and many more.  Field trips will be arranged for landscape drawing during the camp.  All sessions, including the extended care, will be conducted in Mandarin.

Our Mandarin and Art Summer Camp is a small-sized camp with a maximum of 10 students.  Each student will get personalized treatment, provided with love and care.  Our goal for the program is to teach the children basic Mandarin communication skills while they are having fun with all kinds of hands-on activities and games.

Hi Allison, We know of a fair number of day camps in the US and then sleep away camps in China, but no sleep away camps in the US. If you find any, please tell us about them! There is a Mandarin immersion school coming to Duval, Florida. https://miparentscouncil.org/2010/02/16/duval-florida-to-get-mandarin-immersion-program/ This is a full list of the schools we know of in Florida, they might be helpful in finding camps:

      Florida

      Global Outreach Charter Academy

Global Outreach Charter School, a K-8 school, Duval, Florida. Mandarin K beginning 2010-2011.

      The school also offers Russian.

      Palm Bay Academy

Grades K through 12, Charter School, Palm Bay, Florida

Pilot program consists of two language immersion programs – Chinese and Spanish. We are starting with kindergarten this first year – one for each program – and will expand by one grade each year as these kindergarteners go up through the program. Our program is based on a 50/50 immersion (half day in English and half day in the target language – Chinese or Spanish).

      Panama City Renaissance School

Grades K through 3 with plans to extend to high school, Private School, Panama City, Florida

      URL: pcrschool.org

Offers accelerated academics and fluency in three languages (Mandarin, Spanish and English). Four hours of instruction are in Mandarin (including science, math, history and geography), one hour of English, and one hour of Spanish. All languages are taught by immersion. Due to the accelerated nature of the academics and the language instruction, the school will only add one additional grade level each year (complete elementary program 2010, complete elementary and middle school program 2013, complete elementary, middle school and high school program by 2017).

I know of a one week sleepover camp in New York State, starting 8-15. Ages 7 – 15, I called them and the 2010 application is not available yet but you can read about them on line.

        Where is Duval?

Yes. Middlebury Monterey Language academy does a sleep away Mandarin Immersion program held at either Swarthmore College or green Mt. College. You can google MMLA and see the program. My daughter age 13 went last year and LOVED it. She was very prepared for her classes once back in school in the Fall.
