Do you have to be part of LAUSD to attend?

It’s for incoming Kindergarteners, so I think all parents who are interested are welcome to come, even if they’re a few years out from Kindergarten. When we started our program in San Francisco, we even had people coming to the meetings who didn’t have kids yet, but were thinking about whether they’d buy in San Francisco or not, depending on whether they could find a Mandarin immersion school there.

You should check with the school to find out if you have to be in LAUSD to attend. My daughter attends the other dual language Mandarin/English elementary in Los Angeles, at City Terrace Elementary–over by Cal State LA. We are not in the district, but were able to waiver in. It’s an amazing program: My daughter has been in it for 2 years and already speaks the language (simply) and can read and write in Mandarin, as well. The woman behind the program, Joyce Hsin, is very well versed in the program and can probably answer your questions. Her email is: jwh4705@lausd.net. Good luck! Mari
