I finally completed the parent survey. I hadn’t looked at it to see if how relevant it would be to our experience, as we completed the elementary program, but then did not stay for the middle school program.
One thing I thought of AFTER finishing the survey that I think affects parents’ perception of immersion programs, is very few parents have experienced any other type of education setting for their kids. I don’t think there could have been any way to factor this in, but perhaps a follow up study might be able to survey parents who have experienced more than one kind of schooling for their kids. I happen to be one, since my district did not have an immersion program until my youngest. I was impatient with many parents over the years, because I felt much dissatisfaction and…perplexity (?) was not really due to the immersion program, but due to the public school setting, and with, well, school!
Best wishes on this project, and thanks for all you continue to do for other Mandarin immersion parents. Kathleen Ting
