…or you could just enroll them in Mandarin immersion

Read Judy Shei’s piece about moving to Singapore for work and then getting a spot in the local public school. Then check out this video from the New York Times Style Magazine.

(In the interest of full disclosure, when our kids were taking part in poetry reading competitions with their classmates in grade school, the students who did hand motions always won. I was guilty of wishing we’d watched a few more of these types of videos before heading down to Presidio Middle School for the Bridge Cup competition.)

(And huge thanks to Judy for giving me her copy to read and thus making me more happy than she could imagine on my flight home from Singapore…) It’s going to be a movie next year so you’ll be ahead of the game, and besides, it’s the only book I’ve ever read where the footnotes made me laugh out loud on the bus. Kevin Kwan is brilliant. Highly recommended.
